I saw one on a rover at hayward but it left before I could ask the owner. I don't even remember the vehicle, just the great way to mount the jack. even had a lock to keep the jack from walking away. If anyone remembers this please help me out. I think that maybe the bracket could be available in a 4wd shop or from england. I haven't seen this in the BP or RN catalogs. BTW, are old toyota land cruiser (70's) front bumpers the same as rovers? they look similar, but I'll check out a friends to see. I maintain that toyota copied land rover (head lights in the grill) but he thinks it was jeep. He also says that toyota bought the blue prints from chevy for the inline 6 cylinder engine and copied it. Thus, for him, engine replacement was a chevy 6 and was easy (relatively?). anyone know someone trying to sell a few dormobile parts? I want a new latch or two for the top as well as the rack for the top. I'm going to SF tomorrow morning anyway, so I could stop by and check it out. And since them I've been sifting though volumes of email. I was really temped to delete the whole lot, but I'm being good and reading it. (I'm a bit Rovered out right now). After playing with the Canadians on the heavy off road (which stopped the 101 FC after snapping a 3/8 winch cable (noone was hurt)) and driving one of the 101s (I want one--anyone know of any legal customs loopholes) then the Myles Murphy's Down East Rally VII at Owls Head Maine (I counted 102 Rovers +3 Rover cars, and official count reached 115 Rovers) I'm a bit talked out. The Rover didn't have any fatal problems. 1.In Idaho it started missing which would only go away by applying the choke fully, but got worse. I limped into Roy "Rovers in the Rockies" Caldwell's place in Helena, Montana. We readjusted the float levels and there was a partial blockage of the main jet, but this could have been dirt from the work bench. The carb was fuel starved and chocking it richened the mixture. During this ordeal the mileage increased to ~15mpg! On a Rochester. 2.In Eastern Montana it suddenly died. It would start but died as soon as I let go of the key. The "on" lead to the coil had oxidized and severed. 3.In North Dakota the pin connecting the Overdrive lingage fell out, leaving me in overdrive until I stopped for dinner and replaced it. 4.In North Dakota 2nd gear dissapeared. It wouldn't let me engage second at all. No grinding, just I couldn't get it. It reappeared a few miles later after stopping in a parking lot and using reverse. I now have no synchro for 2nd and have to time the shift to prevent grinding of gear. (The tranny is coming out after the Paradise Valley Run) 5.Before Minneapolis I realized that one of my tyres was going bad and getting down to the steel belt. I pushed on. 6.In Canada the speedo started acting up. It would under-read during acceleration and maintaining speed, but become accurate under engine braking. I either the cable is going bad, or the gear on the tranny is not engaging properly b/c the tranny parts are shifting a bit depending upon the load. 7.By the time I got to Ottowa, the tyre was on its last legs. I used my spare (which is smaller than the other 235/75R15s) for the light and heavy off roads. Charlie Haigh of Rover's North said that he had 3 or 4 15 inch tyres left over from when he switched to 16 inch rims and that I could have them. (Bill Maloney visited Chairlie right after the OVLR meet and brought 3 really nice, aggresive 225/75R15s to me at Owl's Head. Some things from the list over the last few weeks: Carbs. *I was getting 10 to 11 mpg one my Rochester (except for thost stints at 15mpg) I'm going to rejet it. *Mike Loiodice has a Rochester in the 88 he resurrected for Owl's Head and claims to be getting 17mpg with a #56 (I think) jet. *My Webber 1 barrel usually gets 15 to 16 mpg for speeds around 60 mph (and I have a roofrack). *The owner of BP claims that if you are getting more than 16 mpg on a 2.25 liter engine your are running too lean and risk engine damage if you are in hot climates or doing long highway runs. *The owner of BP claims that the single barrel Webber comes stock with too small a jet for the 2.25L engine and needs to be rejetted. *The Canadians hate the Rochester and say the the Webbers are ok, but quality control for manufacture sucks and most need to be rebuilt out of the box. *Obviously your milage will vary :) Since I now have 2 unmounted tyres (old spare and old running tyre) does anyone have one or two 15 inch rims that they want to part with? I've added a few more people to the list, but may have accidentially missed a few people. If you know of anyone that wants on tell me.
