I called Steve at BP a couple of weeks ago, and I THINK he said $630
for a Superwinch OD...that $50 less than what you've been told. When
I said WOW, he said that he really wanted to be competitive...if that
price (I'm going deaf - a sure sign of male menopause) was right, he
is getting very competitive indeed. When SWMBO allows me rights to
the plastic, I'm calling back and ordering one.

Ok I feel stupid. I have been cleaning up my PC for the whole week and some
how lost the numbers of the people that had offered me help unload the truck
in Davis. I do remember John and Mike offered. So if you could email me
today with your numbers I would still really appreciate the help. We
should be up in Davis on the 6th either in the morning or early afternoon
depending how much driving we do on Saturday, so I was going to call on the
Cell phone when we started getting close. Also If anyone wants to contact
me before the move I am at (310) 915-6510.

Our new address is 525 Alvarado Ave Davis Ca 95616. (916)750-0437.

I won't make it to Paradise, I have way too much packing to do with only one
week to go. I'll take the rover out so as to distract Joe Lucas from your
event.

Hi Ben,

Is there any additional info on the '85 110? Price, RHD/LHD, condition,
miles, # doors, engine, etc? It's not a Dormobile, is it?

All:

I'm back on line but don't know for how long. It seems to be a problem with
the phone lines at Pacific Internet. Messages to and from Redwood Free-net
also route through Pacific Internet so I'm not sure that's any more reliable.

I plan to come up Friday P.M., hopefully all in the daylight. Seems that my
path will cross that of others at Marysville so I might cruise up and down
Hwy 70 a little to see if I spot any others.

However, I'm still held captive with my Rover's carb off. Hopefully, all
will come together today. Otherwise, I'll just have to drive my Dodge
because I've run out of time to fiddle, like switching carbs and/or
manifolds, etc. Just don't feel up to it at this point.

Pray for me.

I don't have the Roverlog here at work but remember the most important feature,
Walt: The telephone number of the owner is 408 area code, so somewhere
around San Jose, eh? Seems to me that is was low miles and has the
3.5-liter V-8. As far as I can recall, there was no mention of a Dormobile
top. Maybe he figured that's a given, considering that it's in N. Cal?

Sorry we won't be seeing you at Philbrick.

walt and others,

the 85 is not a mistake. I found out about it's existence awhile ago.
Essentially range rover running gear with 110 looks is how it was
described. I don't know if that implies conversion or what. I don't know
# of doors but I heard it was left hand drive. condition was stated as
perfect or pristine or someother synomym for excellent. price in rover log
is 25K. phone number is 510 area code. I also heard that the vehicle was
involved in a legal squabble and is very ca legal but probably with dmv
being pissed.

Now, if you could import 110s and show up at the referee station and claim
its just an ugly range rover, would that fly? Sure you'ld need the right
emissions stuff AND with a newer car DOT regulations could come into play
but I'd like to hear the real truth.

Cheers.

PS I have the rover log at home, not here at work.

fellow rednecks,
I sent this message yesterday, but got it back this morning, which explains
why I heard so little chatter on the ol' box yesterday. (partially). Got my
gastank back yesterday. we're looking good. Tell me I was thinking how taboo
is it too invite a friend with a CJ?
yesterday I was feeling like Rover Snobbery was silly, it should be
4XSnobbery. so long as the vehicle can make it where the rest of America
can't go (save for on foot) then we are all brethren, and when I had this
revelation, I thought it might be nice to invite a friend of mine whom I
wasn't even considering to invite, simply because he owns the American
Facsimile of the Land Rover... I will respect everyone's opinion, as I am the

Subject: The Great Rover Highroad

Hello Red Necked Rover Owners,
Danarosa here, and I was wondering... I was thinking of heading up to
Paradise on Friday day... is anyone else planning to do this? If so, perhaps
we could travel in unison hmmmm?
Also, I am hearing chatter about Range Rovers going to paradise this
weekend, and would that be acceptable?
I for one would love to see a Range Rover off of the pavement for once, so
please, bring as many Range Rovers as can be conjured ya?
I will bring my hammer for any needed repairs,( ie. to tangle with the
shrubbery, as I did with Granville a few saturdays ago.) and I can also bring
some drab spraypaint to cover any unsightly scratches. :-)

-- Michael Carradine, thanks for the tip about getting in on the used
loanerRovers, I had not considered this angle, and will work very hard to
beenefit from your idea, again thank you.--

Morgan, if you are still around, from where will you be leaving at around
11am on Friday? perhaps I could meet you then?
I will be bringing a friend's camera, and would like to do a little piece
for Alan over at LRW about this weekend's events.

oh, Granville, I've been thinking... when at Granville's Rover Emporium of
Deadwood, I spotted a few wings lying about the yard, and was wondering, what
might be involved in aquiring a passenger side front wing for MY Rover? Just
putting it out there, in fact, anyone with a straight wing can get in on this
one so long as the price is not in the Ludicrous range ( anything under
25,000 dollars seems fair to me...)
Just asking, I keep having problems with feeling like hammering the old
wing out, it seems that I get one screw undone, and then elect to spend my
afternoon swilling Guinness instead, usually after a few Guinness I find that
the wing looks fine!

I think I am sort of clear on how to get there, I was thinking 12 to 80 to 5
to 99? is this the logical trip from Rosa?
is there a prettier route with a reasonably comparable mileage?

Morgan, if you are here, I think I have lost Matt of Napa's number (Francis)
is he planning to bring his Green Machine? have you heard weather or not he
solved his "ticking" problem? to hear him tell it, it is not a "ticking" but
more a "kabooming". I hope he has solved whatever his motor ailment and will
be able to join us. I also am curious to see if Glen(pack rat) of benecia
has resolved his cooling problem.

I was thinking, it might be nice to see a rover 3500 out there as well.

Granville, are you smogged?
what's this about a shindig at Uncle Roger's house? I'll have to meet Uncle
Roger. Any excuse for a shindig is a good excuse for a shindig.

I suppose I should get back to my gig. The Nazi's at Nor Cal metal stripping
still have my fuel tank, I have the feed tube jammed down a little plastic
gas tank, not cool, I've got a $3 range. NEVER TAKE ANYTHING TO NOR CAL
METAL STRIPPING!!! THAT GUY IS AN A*& HOLE. when trying to get information
from me we nearly came to blows, (or a screw driver in the heart) basically
he says, "I'll have your tank ready when it's ready, I don't care how
inconvenient this is for you, and should I call you when it's ready or would
you like me to just chuck your stupid tank over the fence when it's
finished?"
I was not impressed with his customer service department.

that's all for now. looking forward to meeting you all this weekend.
dan of rosa

------- =_aaaaaaaaaa--also, i said...

ben says,

> (Which is why I was expecting
>Range Rover 4.0 SEs this year.) Maybe Camel has changed.

I think that would be nice to see. the 4.0 is a pretty truck, sure would like
to see it climbing trees, but nothing looks more brutish in the woods than
one of defenders.
to impress me, the truck should be at least as stout as the beer I drink.
danarosa
ps. disco and RR owners, please don't take offense. for me it(the defender
thing) is a matter of principle based on traditional values.
danarosa

hope this is not all out dated or boring ya? see you all soon.

Subject: Rover for sale

I was up at Scottys (in the SF Bay Area) yesterday and there in the driveway
was a beautiful series III 88! It is painted dark green (original color was
red) and sits real proud on a set of new tires (16", I think).

Someone had taken it up to Scotty to check out before buying.

Smart move.

As it turns out, this cutie has a severely tweaked frame. You can get behind
it and draw an imaginary line forward from each rear wheel. The front wheels
are about 4" out of line! You might ask whether the rear axle casing is
merely shifted on the springs due to loose u-bolts, but the answer is no. An
inspection will show ripples on the frame as further confirmation that she's
bumped something pretty hard. The new galvanized rear crossmember is possibly
the replacement of a bashed-in old one.

So if you run across this sweet-looking Rover, beware that she isn't worth
the $7,000 that her owner is asking. After you figure in the cost of
replacing a complete frame, you might want to offer something more like
$2,000. That would be worth it, eh?

See ya!

The Green Rover came to life yesterday and is on the road...and got partially
loaded for paridise lost.

I expect to leave Santa Cruz early Fri morning and want to take a inland route
like 99 or some such.

Since I didn't think I would make it, I deleted the route directions to the
basecamp.

Could someone please send me the Paradise lost route directions?

I may be able to make Davis by 10ish.

I pulled the head that I accidently torqued to disel specs and replaced it with
a new head gasket. After careful torquing to proper head specs, I was elated to
find that the engine still spun (it froze when overtorqued). I checked the
valve lash before readjusting it to see how much thinner the old head gasket
got. Valve lash was 26 thousanths. SO the head gasket was 16 thou thinner than
it was supposed to be..Yipes! Since I suffer from shipfitters disease I
couldn't just do what needed to be done. So I pulled the Rochester, rejetted it
and had the linkage arm spot welded to the shaft. The swage was lose and my
idle varied by 4 or 5 hundred RPM at idle. The old jet was a #56 and I replaced
it with a #48. I have a second new #48 in case anyone needs one. The engine
ran very rich with the #56, fouling the plugs everytime I used the choke. Crud
built up in the chaimber heads amazingly fast. I needed to be very careful not
to give added petrol upon starting. The starting technique will be different
with the leaner jet. I haven't quite got it figgured out yet.

ANyway, the front end is tighter than I ever remember it being. There is still
some shaking at 55ish, but not anywhere near as much. I think its from the
large tyres on known bent rims. I haven't properly bled the brakes yet but the
pedal is high and firm with good stopping (for a 109).

I put about 30 miles on her yesterday afternoon as an initial shakedown.
Everything looks OK so far. I brought her home, emptied her out and scrubbed
the oil & grease out of the interior back from where I was storing parts and
started loading her for Paradise.

Since paradise will be a shakedown cruse, I would feel a little better if I were
to convoy. Maybe I can meet up with the Domobile group & Brad if he has his
carb squared away and can get up in the morning.

Yes. 2YER115.

I talked to Scotty again after he had done a more thorough inspection of the
vehicle. What a mess. The gearbox and the transmission aren't pulled
completely together with the bolts that should've done the job although the
bolts are tight (something seriously out of alignment there, I expect). The
gap is filled with silicone. Apparently the complete front main chassis is
pushed back, too. But I said that it was no good already, didn't I?

Then there's the small stuff: It needs U-joints badly. She's got some bondo
under that great paint. Leaks in rear diff pinion, gearbox(bad leak), tranfer
box. Mounts are shot. Rear prop shaft is backwards. Front beam is out of
line. The exhaust pipe is held up with bailing wire.

I guess that's about it for a visual inspection. With that tranny/engine
union like that, I'd really wonder about the running gear on this thing,
tho'.

See ya!

Rick,

Your message got to me via <mendo_recce@owens.ridgecrest.ca.us> so maybe
you're back in business. Dan Connor in Santa Rosa, also connecting via AOL,
is having similar problems. One possible cause may be if it's connecting
via Netcom as I was told that that system has had some downtime.

Will we see you at Paradise Lost?

Sounds sort of the same. No wonder I'm such a lazy slacker. You been

Granny,

Did you get my msg regarding the Canadian beer? Well I'll rekey it even if
ya did.

The Lillypad returned from the trip to visit her ancestors (mommy & daddy)
in the Okanogon (British Columbia). She drove up with the Weasel in the
Montero (and did not find highways 5 and 97 impassable!) and therefore had
adequate room to return importing (Ok..smuggling) some Canadian Micro Brews.
She brought me some Sleeman Cream Ale, Okanogon Spring Pale Ale, and
(ta...da....) Granville Island Lager. The good news is that she brought a
case of each. The bad news (for you anyway) is that my favorite is the
lager. If you make it to Philbrook and I show enough restraint you could
actually get a chance to imbibe in your own named beer. Yeah I know that
you prefer that Guiness 90w stuff but at least you don't need any eating
utensils for the lager. 8^D

So...should I endeavor to save a bottle or two?

Eweeew! That's basically a brew for Stroh's who basically own Sleeman and got
into the "microbrew" scene that way. Don't care for it myself. Besides it's
Ontario brew :)

Okanogon Spring Pale Ale,

yea, OK but as I recollect more of a cereal taste than the:

>(ta...da....) Granville Island Lager.

which tends to be hoppier (something about the selection of hops doesn't appeal
to me though.

>Gerry 72 88
>

By the way, Granville Island is in the south center of Vancouver (under the
Granville Bridge as I recall!). The brewery is a quick visit in a sort of
touristy area. Actually only about a ten minute walk from the LR showroom in the
area. Last I saw they had one of the 5 Canadian 110s in there. But I digress as
usual.

What you really out to track down, of the Granville products, is the Bock (4
packs only).
Now thats good stuff. In fact the combined viscosity and octane rating should
ween Granville (the person) off the "other stuff" - no not the 90 weight! :)

Cheers,

Jeremy

Sorry, Granville I've only got the labels left!

Subject: Dingocroft/UK order quotes are in

All Dingocroft quotes have now been received. Each individual has a
separate quote for their parts. I'll bring copies to Paradise (ETA
9-10 Sat. morning) - so don't take off without me :) Let's aim for two
week turnaround. The quotes are only good for 4 weeks. This will give
time for BP to counteroffer.

Only one known catch so far. I think John Hess's springs etc. are not
exactly what's needed given the confusion on type. I'll try to FAX a
modification to Dingocroft tonight and hope to get a correction
tomorrow morning. Some other parts weren't available as requested
and subsitutions have been suggested.

Total $ damage if there's minimal reduction of wants looks to be around
6,000 to 7,000 pounds sterling. $10,000!!!! :o I wonder if BP knows
what its in for? Maybe we should consider bringing in an excellent
condition group-owned 101FC as parts instead! :)

Regarding the BP counteroffer. I should be able to get a FAX down to
BP tomorrow by simple passing on the Dingocroft copies. The catch is
clarity might not be good enough and its going to be the mother of all
parts FAXs (10+ pages fine print). We'll see.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Subject: wanted used 2 1/4 petrol engine/series air/cond for sale?

Anyone know of a, or have a ,good used 2 1/4 petrol eng. for sale?
A friend is having rod bearing trouble with a ser ll and rather than mess
with hard to get parts we are considering a 2A engine that is good to use
without a rebuild right away.
In other words engine from 63-newer that might have been removed for chev
installation, or from a junk vehicle.
Do not need manifolds, gen,etc.

Also I posted about an air conditioner in a series vehicle but haven't seen
it yet, so here is more.
He has a unit in his 1960-88 which he is taking out.
I thought it didn't have a part in front of the radiator, but he has that at
home out already.
the cooler goes where the heater fits and comes through the right side,
a part goes on the front roof, there is a compressor on lower left of engine,
and receiver/dryer. It has paperwork with it showing it in a Land Rover so
it's for the vehicle. Looks like would be good for a 109 especially, of
course it's in an 88 right now. He will sell it, maybe to pay or help pay for
an engine.

Thanks
 Bob Bernard

I think I may know a fella with a motor from him... Richard "Clark" lives up
in Cazadero, has a bunch of Rovers, reminds me of Granny's place, I think I
saw a few engines lying around up there, he may be willing to part with them,
he's got a really rough 109 that runs, he might be willing to sell the whole
109 for about 1000 bucks or so, maybe less.
he has no phone, and he lives in a VERY remote place in Cazadero, but maybe

Thought I might also mention that this group of LRO's is very Tread Lightly

roads only. We hope to be able to show you all some very challenging trails.

Nick,

The road in is navigable, but slow, dusty, and in some places bumpy. People
pull boat trailers in their to Lake Philbrook all the time, but the boats are
small, probably row boat size.

If you want you could leave the Zodiak here at our place in Paradise. Our
address is 5571 Butte View Terrace. We are 2.6 miles east of the Skyway, off
of Pearson Road (which is the first traffic light at the bottom of town).

BTW, if you are coming up Hwy 70, you'll want to take Clark Road (191) to
Paradise (going over to 99 and up The Skyway, though a beautiful view, is out
of the way.)

If you come up Clark Road, you'd take a right when you reach Pearson Rd., the
first traffic light at the bottom of town, and proceed east 1 1/2 miles to
Butte View Terrace. It's a left turn off of Pearson, we're the 3rd house on
the left, # is on the mailbox.

We'll be leaving here at approximately 11:30am Friday. You're welcome to
convoy up with us.

Cheers,

Sue and Bob

The base camp will be on Lassen State Forest land just beyond Lake Philbrook,
but just before the Jones Resort (and I use the word *resort* loosely <G>).
The *resort* store is not opening this season due to the short season and
storm damage, however, they do have showers we can use for $2.

The area is in the trees, lots of grassy area, a small stream nearby, The
locations we checked out today are large enough for group gathering, all
have fire rings, and are in areas where campfires are allowed with a permit.
We have 1 campfire permit (which we got for MNF. Anyone having a campfire
permit (Granville ??), bring it along, so that we may have more than one
fire, if need be.

Directions: From Hwy 99 at Chico, CA take the Paradise exit (Skyway) and
head for Paradise. If you are coming north on Hwy 70, come up Hwy 191 (Clark
Road) to Paradise. Continue north on Clark Road - it merges with The Skyway
(where you'll turn right) at the top of town. Continue up The Skyway to
Inskip (approximately 28 miles from the top of town - our odometer doesn't
have 10th's) - where the pavement ends and the fun begins.

At Inskip, I would suggest that for a softer ride, those vehicles with radial
tires might want to air down. We air our Norsemans down to 15psi. On the
pre-run, Bruce aired down his 16" radials to 20psi. Otherwise, drive slowly,
and *try* : ) to miss the bumps. I must caution you about the owners of the
Inskip Inn - they are strange to say the least. They do not like 4 wheelers,
so I'd steer clear of the front of their inn. If you are going to air down,
you can pull off the dirt road to your right, just as you leave the pavement.

>From Inskip it is approximately (our odometer doesn't have 10th's) 10 miles
to the base camp. Stay on the dirt road (Skyway) until you get to the first
fork in the road (approx. 3 miles) - this is where Skyway goes to the left,
and YOU continue straight or slightly to the right. You'll be on Humbug
Road. Wind around the road another 2 miles (approx) , til you get to the road
to Lake Philbrook (Philbrook Rd). This is a T intersection - turn right onto
the pavement (which turns back to dirt), and continue 5 more miles. You'll
pass the road to the High Lakes in 2 or so miles (it will be on your left)
Continue straight, however, past the PG&E fishing access parking lot, past
the Philbrook Camp Site, past the day use area (where you can launch your
canoes, etc - and where there is a bathroom), past the private cabins which
will be on both sides of the road, and viola, you will reach PARADISE LOST
BASE CAMP.
There is a small water crossing just before you arrive at BASE CAMP. Nothing
to concern yourselves about - just a land mark.

Maps: AAA Feather River and Yuba River Regions; and/or Northern California
Section maps both show the Lassen National Forest. The Feather River and
Yuba River Regions actually shows the road to Lake Philbrook.

More later,

Cheers,

Sue and Bob

Thank you Granny!!! I was just asking Bob what we could use for a grill.

BTW, there are no picnic tables at the camp site, so bring camp tables,
folding chairs, what ever is required for your dining pleasure.

Looks like the potluck is coming together. Suggest everyone bring something
they really like to make to share with the group. You might post the menu

 Just a thought.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but before you get a 101, I'd suggest
finding one and driving it a bit. I took one for a spin about a month ago.
Step one, you climb up into the beast, and if you are as big as I am, climbing
in is like climing in a childs junglegym. The steering wheel lies flat like
in a big truck (which is what you have to climb around). Once in, the engine
cover is about as high as the top of the door bottom so you find yourself in
a little hole. This was a RHD 101, so for me the end of the gearshift lever
was about 2 feet to my left and about at shoulder level. I will say that the
V8 has better acceleration than my SIII 88 and a baby could crawl faster than
a 101 in first low at idle. Dave Lowe claims that his gas milage is about
12-15mpg, but his odometer is broken. I also recall that the loadbead is
about at my chest level (and I'm 6'4" for those of you who don't know me.)
And if you every blow a tyre 900/16s aren't exactly cheap new.

With that said, I've always been smitten by the 101s. After driving
one, I am doublely smitten. I think me having a 101 is something that is
ment to be. Now all I have to do is find the $$$ and convince customs and
California... Anyone know the rules about kit cars?

The 109" FC is a good idea being that they were built from 1962-66
and 3,193 were built. Btw, 101FCs were built from 1972-1978 (almost
all after 1975) and 2,624 were built. If the supposed 25 year rule has
indeed ben passed, I can legally inport one in 2000.

John, gazpacho is absolutely one of my favorites!!!!!! And, do you know what
goes good with it is a nice cold glass of sangria. Back many years ago I
spent a summer in and around Madrid. It was there that I tasted my first
gazpacho and my first, really terrific, sangria. So for those who dare to
drink other than the bitterest stout, there will be sangria flowing.

I have some folding tables I could bring but only if I can find time to put
on my expedition roof rack because my tables are too long to fit into the

corresponded with, such as Geoff Tobin and Peter Wong (he has a restored
Austin Champ that I'd LOVE to see--don't suppose he's bringing that; nah,
he'll be driving the Daimler Ferret), and those such as Steve Hill who have
been a name on paper but not real.

You forgot to add "Discovery" to your list. That's what Rusty Greer has; I
hope he makes it!

Oh, boy, ohboyohboyohboy....

With all these parts adding up to ~$6,000 maybe the list should be
reexamined. For $6,000 you can probably buy a few Rovers and scavenge all
the parts you need, plus a few to boot! (Just another viewpoint... *:)

>If a given torque is good, more must be better and too much is just right!

Not really. Being a bit of a brute with a wrench, I tightened the drain
plug to my swivel ball (you know the one, the plug with the large head and
Oooo-so tiny shaft!) on a Series III. It snapped right off and had to be
taken out on the bench. Sometime later I tightened the six bolts to the
rear axle at the hub to suddenly find the wrenching becoming easier....
Uh, oh!! I carefully backed out the bolts of fine British Steel (an
oxymoron!), and luckily was able to get them out entirely, no broken pieces.
Each bolt had a nice swelt figure in profile, a thin waistline so to speak!
Luckily I stopped wrenching just in time. From then on, I went strictly by
the torque wrench settings (OK, OK, plus 10% just in case of any error!).

Is LGLarson@aol.com also a Rick Larson? This is too confusing.

Well, I'll reply for myself.

My problems stem from being too connected these days. Looks I'll be home
ISDNing into work on Saturday and dealing with relatives on Sunday. Very
slight chance I'll make a run up from Los Gatos to Paradise Friday Night
just to see all the Rovers in action. Tough call, career vs LRs.
I'd have to return home on Sat. though. Not so tough a call, mother, flying
in from Chicago Sunday AM, vs LRs.

If I can't make it, and the D90 to Dormobile conversion kit RN
is sending out gets here by Sat., I may try and install it.
Has anyone else out there done a 3.9 V8 to 2.25 4 cylinder
swap? How much time does it take? Any advice? ;-)

(Note the smilely. I really have no intention of ruining my very
rare, NAS D90, by turning it to one of those all to common Dormobiles.)

Hope you all have a great weekend, wish I could make it.

what is the "wotta" for? Any sendmail program assume that a space is a break
in arguments. So a "mail wotta tr@aolcom" will send the same message to user
"wotta" on the local system and to "tr@aol.com". If their true email is
"wotta tr", then aol should add an underscore between the words, or they
will not be able to get much email from the nonAOL world.

> They will probably be contacting Ben to get on the list soon I suspect we wi
> be able to email orders soon.

One warning (somehthing I've warned Steve about as well) DO NOT SEND
YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER OVER THE INTERNET. (loud enough, eh?) By default all
mail is sent in the clear and _anyone_ between you and the reciever has the
potential to read it. Also, with out encrypted signatures, there is no
way to verify who sent the mail (as our regular posts by Joe Lucas have shown
(well, actually, I know who it is because I can look at the logs and narrow the
field down a bit)). Anyway without some form of identity verification, you
can't tell who an email is from. Would you like someone to order parts for
you? I suggested that if Steve takes email orders, to call the orderer back
to get creditcard information and identity verification.

On the whole, I welcome BP to the net. And I hope that subtle hints
about Web based catalogs are implemented.

Ben

Not a bad idea really. The only catch being that trashed vehicles aren't likely to have
many of the parts that people really want new (i.e., Brownchurch racks, a Turner 2.25l
(yup, guilty :), body panels, etc.) and in some cases I think we'd have to get just the
right kind of parts donor (e.g., military grade springs) whereas in others it would take
several to match the identical needs. But maybe those concerned should get together at
Paradise and consider this situation.

By the way, just noticed I've got all I need to FAX to BP so will do that tonight before I
leave for home so hopefully we'll get a detailed (as opposwed to: Ooops what the #$(* is

Thanks Rick. This clears it all up. I've been wondering where all
the D90s on Cole's lot went to. Should've realized that the fading
of the D90s correlated exactly with the increasing number of
Dormobile sitings in the area. Shame to ruin a limited production
classic that will no longer be available with something as
"domestic" :) as a Dormobile, but there you go.

I am still concerned however, about the legalities involved with
that one Dormobile with seventeen different titles and seventeen
different registered owners. Surely if this can happen getting that
101FC in country is a piece of cake!

Cheers,

Jeremy

:) <---- for all you Dormobilies!

P.S. I hear the Corn Flake Rover Co. specializes in the 3.9 to 2.25
conversion. The condition seems to be that they take the less
valuable 3.9 in return for credit toward the 2.25 core charge. I
hear there's no cutting involved but if you want you can actually
get the radiator set back between the wings!

 As is his perogative!

That's called "bid shopping", a highly unethical practice. The proper thing
to do is to give him the list and let him work up a complete price.

Don't feel bad, Ben. Your motives are pure. BP sounds like a qualified
bidder, and they should be given a chance at providing the items on the list
(as are RN, AB, and DAP!).

Seems to me, as an impartial observer, that you should take a lesson from
bidding procedures in the construction industry, also known as RFP's
 (Request For Proposal's).
 1. You make your list and indicate the quality of items to be supplied
(ie genuine or third party items), and alternates permitted.
 2. You pre-qualify your bidders (don't allow flaky outfits) and leave
them enough time to prepare a considered bid. It is customary to let
bidders know if and who they're competing against (ie The UK firm may
try to underbid the local firm, or choose not to bid!), but not necessary.
 3. Send everybody the same list to price, and have them (or later add)
hidden costs such as duty, shipping, taxes, etc. to each proposal to
properly evaluate them. Take out odd-ball items that throw off the bids
if they're not available to all bidders.
 4. Evaluate the proposals and make adjustments for non-identical items or
alternates not previously considered. If necessary have the lowest or
two lowest bidders revise their quotes to add, change, or delete items.
 5. Award the bid to the lowest qualified bidder! Announce your decision to
all competitors, including the price(s) and revised bid list. In a
competitive environment the same bidder may not be successful all the
time. It is helpful to notify the bidders _after_the_fact_ what the
winning bid was, and to let them know you actually placed an order, and
that you are fair principled and serious buyers. Next time around you'll
have more respect and they'll keep their pencils sharp. $6,000 orders
from the LC Rover Group every few months is nothing to sneeze at!

 Good luck,

Granville,

We are bringing a folding (shaky) camp table. We also have our collapsible
(especially when you are sitting on it) picnic table and bench set up. But,
it's just bring your own - everybody - so Granny, don't worry about putting
racks on your LR for any tables. You have, I'm sure, enough to do to get
ready, already. Just bring yourself, and what yourself needs! OK. And I'm
sure everybody else will do the same.

See ya,

Sue and Bob

One of the ways is to set up order authorization information beforehand
including a shipping address and call-back numbers. Then orders are less
 risky.

Hear, Hear! A Web based catalog?? Oooooo, sounds nice. If 'genuine'
Rover part numbers were used by all vendors (RN and DAP already do!),
comparative pricing would be a snap. If the vendors don't want to publish
a Web-Catalog, maybe the LC Rovers should. After all, we just need to get
the rights to the drawings (Yea, sure!).

I still think sending unencrypted creditcard numbers across the
big, bad Internet is a really bad idea. Orders are ok if you authenticate.

Remember that a Web catalog will probable mean a deadicated line, or
purchasing space on a certain machine. The best solution would be a dedicated
line to their own machine bacause then they could link it into what they
have in stock and prices could be kept up to date.

I talked to Mark L. of RN about this and he claimed that LR doesn't
want their part numbers on the net (being proprietory and such). BP bought
the right to use the numbers, so who knows what will happen.

Yeah, you're right and I'd already decided that I didn't need to bring any
extra weight or wind resistance (not to mention not having time to change
roofs). Gonna hafta really do the minimum if I'm to get there. Trying to
get Bennett to help me get ready but he's far to busy to give me much time.
Vivid memories of the stress he caused me last time are most of why he's not
invited this time.

Soonest,

Granny

Dang, you beat me to it; yeah, it's shortened. Belongs to Gareth Seymour
who had corresponded with me quite a bit, months back, about a trip over
here. He and some other Welsh LROs were going to camp at my place one
night. Gareth dropped out but there were still two. Then I heard no more.
Don't know if the trip died or if I just got cut out of the loop.
