I've been home & at work since Mac World ended in early January. I've just been putting in long hours at work and working on the Rover. Yesterday, I replaced the water pump with a new one. The old one was streaming water out the front shaft hole and the fan had a lot of side to side movement. While I was at it I replaced my new rebuilt alternator while it was on warrenty. The one I got had bearings that whined. I replaced the lower thermostat housing. One of the two threaded holes that fix the radiator bipass was stripped making a seal difficult. I do not know if I striped it myself or if the engine's previous owner did it. My engine is out of a wrecked series III. While I was at it (localized shipfitters disease) I replaced the thermostat. My old one still opened properly but it did not close completely so the engine often ran below operating temperature when it is cold. Kodiak heaters don't work well when the coolent is cool. Last weekend I had the local propane company hook up my stove and install a 'T' for future interior propane heater and a 'T' to hook in a second tank in case my built in goes dry while camping. I hooked up the drains for both sinks. Then I spent Sunday at a big dog show. Today I'll probably spend 2 or 3 hours doing work work, reconnect my windscreen washer system that I took off to get the front clip painted, and finally get around to making the ground connections to my heated windscreens so I can use the heating element. I've been keeping buisy without a whole lot of time to chat. Try putting an inline fuel filter before the carb. When I installed a used petrol tank several years ago (Bob has the tank now), it had picked up some rust & crud. I went through a filter a week or less at first but the crud finally worked its way out of the tank & into the filters. I had to change filters along side the road a few times but crud never got into my carb. I stuck a new water pump on the Turner when I installed it. Once I get the engine running right, I'm thinking it's time to look at the Ujoints. Have you tried the NAPA U-joints by chance? I've got a part number for them. The old ones are getting a bit worn. There seems to be a little clunking in there somewhere when shifting. I also want to rebuild the front end, but hopefully, that can wait until new rainy season (in the fall). I've hung the new NAPA in-line filter in the same spot where the old LR gas filter was located on the bulkhead. In typical fashion, I got one with a 1/4" input and output taps, and had to return it for the 5/16" to match the fuel line :-) I've got two spares, so hopefully can do a little easy off-roading and bounce the fuel around in both tanks a bit. I'll replace the filters often until the tanks "clear up". I sincerely hope that Apple is taking good care of you. After holding four jobs in the last year, and seeing what Wells Fargo did to G.Mugele, I am well aware of how we can get "re-engineered" out of what we consider secure jobs. Hang in there! BTW, I've got a Mac on my desk at work. This is a first for me. I want to see if it can handle a specific need I have. Do you know of any software for a Mac which will allow me to input several thousand scanned color slides and photos (have a Nikon slide scanner for most of this part), store them a dozen or more to a screen as thumbnail sized photos, and allow me to give each a number and maybe a short discription on? I may even be willing to tie the digitized photos to a second relational database; a little more clumsy, but it would work.... See you in Portland, if not before, Dale ----- Dale W. Before putting them in place, Use the bolts to thread the holes, the bolts I've seen are notched on the tip as self tapping screws. But they are a bit hard to start so it's easier to do it on the bench. If you have taps, then tap the holes first (?I think 1/4-20) Used shoes relined by a local shop would of course be threaded.
