Since I failed to fully exorcise the Demon from my IIA (you may recall my whining about my gas guage), he has managed to find his way into my turning indicators. Last night, on the next-to-last right turn before pulling into my driveway, I noticed that the turn indicator didn't go on when I flipped the lever. Once I got it in the driveway, I noticed that the left turn indicator would work, but the right one either clicks once, or goes fast with the back right light flashing and both front indicators flashing. Arrgh! Now get this one: for the last few days, when I push on the brake and the headlights are off but the panel light switch is on, the panel lights come on! What's up with that? This stuff bothers me, as my previous catastrophic electrical failure was caused by the combo light/ignition switch. I don't know if I've mentioned this here, but when I was working on my brakes, I went to the box o' parts that came with the Rover to get the new brake shoes, and noticed YET ANOTHER ignition/light switch in it. That means the switch I installed was at least the third combination ignition/light switch the vehicle has had (and remember: Rover dropped that switch midway through the life of the IIA). Since I have the 3-position toggle switch that Rover used to replace the one around the ignition in the IIA, I may try to install that and hook the lights up to it this weekend, in the hopes that at least the brake light weirdness will go away. I'm seriously considering renaming the car from Rosencrantz to Linda Blair. I guess if I'd had someone else rewire the car, then I wouldn't know how to fix it, and would have to take it back (but then again, maybe it would still functon properly if a competant mechanic had done the work!). Arrgh! Chris, The dark one commonly known as "the Prince" taunted me with this exact problem. I lazily went without a rear left turn signal for a year. One day while at the local 5-quarter do-it-yourself spray wash I was spraying off the mud behind the rear crossmember (right side) and noticed a dis- connected bullet connector among that rats nest of wiring (where the rear wire harness comes out of the frame). Gotta get them hooked early, right? Oh, he knows where two more Gypsy's are sitting in the woods. According to his info sources, they've been there for the past 6 years. Rover Club. (Hoping there are some.) I'd like to encourage anyone so interested to submit any kind of LR related article for publication. You needn't be a member or interested in joining to contribute. Anyone is welcome to provide information or a good story. The goal here is to provide information to others in the area, particularly those without the "luxury" of 'net communications. It might also serve as a means of getting a decent hard copy of info. that you'd like to have for reference. There's a lot of information that has been passed on over the 'net that we'd like to see made available to others, but we don't want to just take up information provided by people on the 'net and incorporate it anonymously, indirectly, or whatever into the newsletter. We'd like to see those who've been discussing it pass it on with credit/attribution etc. (besides then there's someone to blame :) ). If you are interested please e-mail me (bartlett@slip.net) or any of the other scoundrels currently in positions of reputed responsibilty with the club. BTW just to make this clear - NO ONE in the club is being paid or compensated in any way for their efforts, so you won't be filling some one else's coffers by contributing. This is all being done on a volunteer, non-profit basis in the spirit of passing on information and enjoyment of the vehicles.
