I am not familiar with them, where do you get > their maps? how do they compare to the USGS maps in detail and cost? I think there are usually in 1:100000 and 1:50000 scales. The charts are called ONC (Operation Navigational Chart) and TNC (Theatre Navigational Chart) and are really intended for pilots. The 1:50000 scale is for those flying under 1000 feet though. They are quite detailed though and and someone else said are sold through the USGS. I dunno what the price is. The one time I tried to call to make an order, I spent 20 minutes on hold and gave up. The DMA also has a series of maps at the 1:25000 scale, but I haven't seen them. The one nice thing about the ONC and TNC charts is that the DMA has coverage of the entire world. The one map that I picked up was one that the Caltech Geology department was throwing out and covers the southern tip of Greenland. There are at least two basic versions of the fan, single and dual speeds. It also comes as a pusher (in front of the radiator) or a puller - this may be just different mounting hardware. Back when I thought that I had an over heating problem in my SIII, I ordered a dual speed pusher Kenlowe fan. (It later turned out that I only had a gauge calibration problem.) Mounting was simple on the SIII. They recommend mounting the thermostat in the radiator via the hose at the top. Looks funky, but does work. The fan really moves the air, even in the low speed. When it kicks in on low, the water temp drops very quickly. I suppose a sustained steep grind up a hill on a very hot day would be sufficient reason for kicking it into high. Be sure to get at least a 35 amp fuse for the beast, as it will really suck up the juice on high. Finally, they recommend removing the mechanical fan when installing the Kenlowe. The argument is that the fan over cools the engine and lowers your horse power. While this is probably true, the mechanical fan is very simple and reliable; whereas electrical problems are very fickle and hard to solve in the field. Use the Kenlowe as a supplementary system, not as the only cooling option. -jd >> $110 Kenlowe electric fan still in box. Frees up 8-9 >> HP. $110 >> >Is this for a Disco???? I checked the tire this morming for the proper air pressure and to see if there were any obvious marks. Everything looked fine. Is my Discovery trying to tell me something? Is there a new name for the Discovery hiding in these events? Any assisance is greatly appreciated... Quite amazing woman, drove all over in a Land-Rover and had a thoroughly great time, writing multiple books about her travels. She did all this when Rover was at least slighty interested in sponsoring adventures; she was of the receiving end of a swb series 2 and what may have been the first Dormobile (you knew I'd Dormobiles in there, didn't you?) Seems Land-Rover offered her a Long wheel base with a camper top and she said OK. She didn't really know much about it and in fact declined the offer of outfitting the interior, thinking that she'd rather have space instead of built in things. I think she feels that was a mistake. However, an interesting thing about this is that she had a 3 door 109 with a dormobile top. I have pictures on my web page (go through books to see barbara toy and her rovers). The letter today remarked that she may have had the first land-rover dormobile! cheers, jfhess@wheel.dcn.davis.ca.us from home via modem Land- -Rover, Sunbeam Tiger and Mazda owner! ------------------------------------ From: "Walter C. I rented a trailer in Reno to haul an 88 over Donner Pass to Davis with my RR. No problem except that the U-Haul dealer couldn't get the trailer electrics to work right, (not a Lucas problem!) but they let it go anyway and I had to wave my arms on turns. Of course, they are a lot more laid back in Nevada than they are in California. When I returned it in Davis they had 4 or 5 just sitting there. Maybe they would be a little more interested in renting here or some other College town? Santa Cruz? The students and new faculty will be pouring in with even more trailers in the next month or so. How about Salinas or Watsonville? They're Ag towns and things are a bit looser. Walt On Tue, 6 Aug 1996, Paul Archibald wrote: > Help! Thursday evening/night I'll be visiting friends in Ashland and Medford. I was considering taking 101 up, but I have an annoying (disgusting?) habit of going Type A behind the wheel. Maybe we could set a time an place along that route to meet for a bite. In Arcata, maybe? Terra Incognita for me, but if you, Granny know of a place... Cheers! Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the place, and don't have a receipt to check. But I do remember that it is just south (again) of the Wedgewood factory seconds shop, and it is well advertised and should be easy to find. The whole area is crawling with china and other ceramic factories and outlets. The appeal of this Land Rover place (starts with "C" I think) is that the owner seems to be one of those guys who buys up old stock. I found part of a heat shield for a 2.6 litre 6 cylinder there that was new, but had obviously been around for while. It wasn't in his computer, but he found it anyway. Another place you might want to visit is Dunsfold Land Rover south of London. Lots of 101's, a Llama, Judge Dred taxis, and a pink panther (now in Jim Pappa's hands in Mass.) and other strange and unusual beasts. A couple of WW II American wreckers live out back along with stacks of other military stuff. Teriann may be able to tell you about some of the used parts places she encountered at Billing, and where to find them. You might want to look in LROI and LRW for ads (the small ones in the back) that fit your criteria. Rgds, Walt * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Walter C.
