I guess it is kinda fitting that I did not make it to the Albatross on Friday cause my flight from Austin was delayed over 4 hours due to DFW being shutdown. I did see the 50yr aniv LandRover commercial while waiting for my flight though. Some nice clips of Series Rovers mixed in with the new. Drove up to Petaluma to pickup my tropical roof from the PO... anybody know which is the best color for a trop roof - white or bare aluminum or other? How about High output alternators - anyone have any recommendations for something +100 amps? On a related note, the latest Northern Hydro Catalog (800 533 5545) had a new coleman generator, 2 stroke 2 HP, 700 watts - 12, 24 or 115 volts - shoulder strap, ship weight is 20lbs!!! $430 "chow" john ------------------------------------ From: KKelly6788@aol.com Date: Sun, 11 Aug 1996 11:11:01 -0400 Subject: 1997 Camel Trophy Team If after watching the Camel Trophy videos, you thought "I could do that" now is your chance to apply for the U.S. team and get an all expense paid trip to Mongolia next May. I just got a letter from LRNA letting me know that Tom Collins is sending out applications for the 1997 Camel Trophy team (write him at P.O. Box 587 Snowmass CO 81654). The driver side fuel tank is in place and looks like factory and all the rest is going as planned but a bit slow. Still looking to drive her on August 23 or sooner. Do have a question. A 109 right hand drive Rover is up for sale in my area. Will survey it this Monday. It is reported to be in good shape and starts, turns and stops. How well will be seen. Also it is reported to have a six. No other details at this point. Any ideas regarding the engine and what would be a non-surveyed value? Just wondering. Would like to try and make it to Portland but it's a long trip and I am still trying to find a job. The guy who owns it started to replace rings on a cylinder with low compression about 10 years ago and never finished the job. He told me he was interested in selling it. BP gave me ball park figures: 25-3500 non running, Somewhere 55-6500 good runner, maybe as high as 12K for restored or excellent condition. Remember, these are just ball park estimates and very rarely correspond to how much the owner really thinks the vehicle is worth (IMO). cheers, jfhess@wheel.dcn.davis.ca.us from home via modem Land- -Rover, Sunbeam Tiger and Mazda owner! ------------------------------------ From: "GATEWAY_2" Date: 11 Aug 1996 09:34:45 -0700 Subject: Unable to deliver message d Mail*Link¨ SMTP RE>$%^&!@ Flight got delayed... Hopefully I grabbed the right one and that he'll notice that he's been dropped and contact me. Ben ------------------------------------ From: Neil Robert Andrews Date: Sun, 11 Aug 1996 18:23:33 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Painting the truck. For about the last ~1.5 months, I have been spending my spare time stripping the multiple layers of paint off my 88' using various techniques including: industrial paint remover (for aircraft - highly reccommended, it made the job much easier) w/ razor blade or putty knife, various other scraping tools, steel wool, emory paper... Now i'm just about ready to start painting. I plan to match the body to the original red paint (the trick of course is where to find the most unfaded paint - right now my best guess is an area near the inside door handle. Any other ideas where a good original colour can be found?) I am also considering painting the roof the same colour as the body. Has anyone done this on a series truck? - I haven't seen one like this, so I'm not sure how it will look. Neil Andrews Just reading about the Camel Trophy Team applications: does anyone know whether Canada has a team yet? If not, how could we get a Canadian team, or can Canadians apply for the US Team? ...just curious, maybe sometime... ------------------------------------ From: Benjamin Allan Smith Date: Sun, 11 Aug 1996 20:42:25 -0700 Subject: Portland As of now, I'll be going to Portland All-British Field Meet. Is anyone else flying in? Can we beg a ride? Is there any easy transport to the meet location. Please advise.
