Subject: Discovery Ignition Lock Problems (fwd)

This was sent to me. I'm not familiar with Disco locks so maybe
one of you could help the major out. Please cc your answers to
ajmac@nextel.net since he isn't on the list. -Ben

I am a US Army soldier deployed in the Republic of Korea with my 1995 =
Discovery. I developed a problem yesterday-The ignition key got "stuck" =
in the off position, with the steering column locked, and no amount of =
moving it, graphite, silocone helped. I pulled the electronic =
components of the switch off, and can start the Discovery with a =
screwdriver, but of course the steering column is still locked. I think =
the key cylinder itself is somehow bound up, and will not allow the key =
to turn in the cylinder. I am now at a loss for how to procede, and am =
looking for any advice. I am kind of on my own here, as I bought the =
Discovery in the US, and Land Rover services are hard (real hard) to =
find here...

I am trying to post this request for advice through the mail list, but =
was unable to join the list on the web page hot link (URL not found). =
Could you assist??

Thanks

HI,
No I don't have the number, but if anyone wants it, I'm sure 1-800-555-1212
will give it to you.
I think Jeremy had a really clear explanation on this question though.

Dear Gerry:

It's great that you're having a meeting about the fuel pump prob- good
luck and thanks for keeping us other D90 owners posted!

My only electrical/fuel problem was trivial by comparison, and Seattle
Land Rover fixed it in short order:

When my '94 D90 was about 4 months old (March or April of '94) the engine
quit while idling in traffic on several occasions and it was difficult to
re-start. [I was the *star* of several traffic jams in rush hour traffic
- topless and nowhere to hide!]

The LR service folks looked at the ECU fault code(s) and ultimately
cleaned the contacts from the big plug that connects to the air intake
sensor. I was told that some of the connections seemed to be fouled by
grease which may have originally been too liberally applied to the
connectors to prevent corrosion. After that fix, my D90 has run
"faultlessly."

Best wishes,
David Rosenbaum
